So I just came back from Lake Havasu City where I had attended their balloon festival. I should have a bunch of pictures to share, right? No. Not at all. I won't beat around the bush here: all three mass ascensions were canceled due to strong winds.

It's not uncommon for some days of a balloon festival to be canceled due to inclement weather. Heck, the Red Rock Balloon Rally that I went to last month only had one mass ascension during its three days. However, this is the first time I've witnessed all of the mass ascensions canceled. Luckily, they did sort of had one day of flying for the school demonstrations the day before the festival.

What got me excited for the Havasu Balloon Festival & Fair was that the event had two flights scheduled per day. All of the festivals I've been to prior have had only one flight a day in the morning. A total of six flights over three days sounded like an excellent opportunity to get plenty of photos, and explore new angles to photograph the balloons.

Along with the cancellation of the flights, the balloon glows were also affected by the winds. The organizers, and pilots managed to put together an impromptu balloon glow the day before the festival which was fun to see. After that, the winds didn't allow for anyone to inflate their balloons for the balloon glow. When that happens, they have what is called a "candlestick" event. It's just baskets, and the pilots spewing flames out of their burners. It's amusing to see once, however, it certainly doesn't hold a candle (pun intended) to an actual balloon glow.

All-in-all my goals of getting photos were utterly destroyed by the heavens. Well, I guess there's next year, right?
